Just another picture from the courtyard of the Spanish Riding School, this statue stands in a little square by the street and the façade is the upper part of the same wall as yesterday.
The Spanish Riding School is first mentioned in 1572 and is located in an old part of the “Viener Hofburg” (Royal Castle complex) that used to be a stable and then was rebuilt in renaissance style. The riding school only uses white stallions bread specially for this, this kind of horse is called Lipizzaners after a stud farm near Triest. The connection to Spain seems to be just a name thing, the school is named after a kind of horse race held in Spain as far back as the Roman time.
The Spanish Riding School is the only Institute of the Classic Art of Riding, which maintains and practises the Renaissance Tradition of Classic Schooling. This kind of riding in practice means that the horse is taught to do a variety of manoeuvres such as walking sideways and making very elegant moves. If you look closely to my picture I think the statue is making such small steps going forward and to the right.
Writing this I had a lot of help from this link which I recommend all horse and architecture lovers. The even have chandeliers in the riding hall!

Very good! Did you do any post processing? I looks almost as if the picture has been desaturated, except for the horse.

Not only is the building beautiful, it also provides a great background to this colourful statue. Thank you for the note, Ebbe. Well framed.

Beautiful picture, Ebbe! Nice angle, very nice framing and great, simple colors (as usual). So distinct it's almost as if it is a drawing. It reminds me very much of one of the better from Uderzo, the artist drawing "Asterix" - you know Roman statue, classic building... It's a favorite!

Your series from Vienna is really yielding some great shots, Ebbe. The statue is well positioned in front of the Hofburg facade, and these two elements are contrasting really well. Excellent note also.

Nice composition, and the contrast beteween the statue and the white wall worked well. I've just done a WS trying to correct the horizontal lines. Hope you like it.

The relation of the green and "round" statue to the white and rectilinear building is very well observed and caught.

I have seen a documentary of what these horses can do and it is amazing. It is also sad thinking that we are making horses do things which are unnatural to them to entertain humans. Then again there are circuses that do worse things to animals. Great photo anyway!!!
