The dome of the Church Am Steinhof from Vienna. It was my "discovery". Before going somewhere, I look at Trip Advisor. Often I can find there notes made by our TE friends, like Rosemary or Angshuman. I look at "what to see and what to do" and it happens that something is high in rating but is not widely known. In this way I learnt about fabulous small Rustem Pasha mosque in Istanbul, that is very close to Galata Bridge but most tourists miss it (thanks, Angshu!). The same was in Vienna. I was interested why this church is regarded as so interesting. Ranked #8 of 297 attractions in Vienna. I just went there to see. Even in the most touristic area there are many places worth visiting with no people around. Just the little effort is needed to find it.
Another thing is what to present on TE. You get much more points showing something what was shown many times before. Something not known seems less interesting. I don't care but it can be disappointing.
Kirche am Steinhof, also called the Church of St. Leopold, is the Roman Catholic oratory of the Steinhof Psychiatric Hospital in Vienna, Austria. The building designed by Otto Wagner is considered one of the most important Art Nouveau churches in the world.
This is the famous architect Otto Wagner’s masterpiece of Jugendstil design, and is a must see if you are visiting Vienna for more than just seeing the Hapsburg palaces and eating cake. It's situated in the grounds of the Steinhof Psychiatric Hospital on the outskirts of the city and is a steepish walk up the hill from where the bus 47A or 48A finishes (stop is called Baumgartner Hohe). The interior is only open on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, but it is still worth going during the week for the fantastic exterior if you are interested in Jugendstil. The stained glass windows are by Kolo Moser. It is an awe inspiring place and the detail is amazing.
How I could not to go there?
Big photo in beta.

A fine composition showing the gorgeous details of this splendid dome. The vivid colour of the background sky and the sharp details produce an image with a great visual appeal. A perfect complement to your candid note.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice evening.

I think it was a good decision to concentrate on just one part of the church, for you have been able to convey excellent details of the materials and the design of this beautiful dome. The light is catching it very effectively, to give an intimation of the textures.
My warm regards,

This building was indeed well worth seeking out with its spectacular dome, which is nicely set off here by the saturated blue sky. Love the play of light over the golden tiles. Very well exposed and precisely framed.

this looks like it has been well looked after. A stunning dome with all the beautiful intricacies and detailing so clear and sharp. Looks amazing against a clear blue sky too!

This is a fine architecture photo. The closeup treatment is great showing great detail. The lighting is great and the photo has fine sharpness. The deep blue sky provides a great backdrop for the subject.

Ciao cara Itchy Feet
Wow, this looks like something straight out of the Middle East. I'm amazed that it's in Vienna. Stunning colours, sharpness and contrasts. I love the chromatic rendering of the dome and the tight crop.
Thanks for sharing, have a beautiful day

Beautiful view of Kirche am Steinhof's dome, the ornate use of geometrics, metal in repetition is appealing. Probably for me, because I grew up exposed to numerous Los Angeles art deco structures.
And I agree with adventuring "off the beaten path", experiencing and photographing places not dominating the prescribed tour advertisements. And today the internet is a very valuable research tool with numerous alternatives.
Thanks for sharing,
PS: I am working on my own website www.rayphotos.com.
The goal and plan is basically to share and provide travel infortmation and photography keying on The West. It is under construction and I will be making major changes. At heart, I am still a "civil servant" working for the People......

It is very sad, or at least very strange, If your observation is correct that the best known places get the most attention even on TE. Why is there such a great interest in showing, and giving smileys to, the buildings or views that have already been shown so many times before? The tourist groups only see the famous places and ignore the less known gems, but why should individuals just follow the broad path?
This is indeed a very beautiful dome with lots of characteristic details and fine colours. The dark blue sky provides a perfect background.

Na pierwszy rzut oka wydaje się, że to kościół w obrządku wschodnim na co wskazywałby wystrój tej kopuły, ale to kościół katolicki, rzeczywiście piękna robota, pierwszy raz widzę choć byłem w Wiedniu

Today we offer a fantastic and innovative image of this beautiful dome, is the first time that I had envisioned and no knowledge of this work "art deco" style that I love, to display a splendid POV.
Very good brightness and sharpness, with beautiful colors.
Well seen and done better. I like it
Have a good day.

Art deco always catches my eye as we have so little of it in IReland, during its boom time, Ireland was very poor and did not build much. An Art deco dome on a church is a completely new concept to me, so bravo for going off the beaten track and finding this gem!
Beautiful blue sky combined with reflective golden light makes this a scene fit for a king or a cardinal :) Thanks as always

good for you to post a photo even though you may know it won't get so many points :)
and you're right, the Iconic popular subjects always seem to do better as they're more recognizable.
as for this photo here, its super sharp, super clear.
lots of definition and clarity - there's really nothing wrong with it at all!
a fine post for TE
We're off to Chicago on July 19th for 6 days!

On reconnait tout de suite le style d'Otto Wagner dans ce dôme d'église Art Nouveau. Le petit reflet de lumière ne manque pas d'intérêt.

Hello dear Malgo
Those hidden beauties of Vienna are really great; squeesed between Gothic and Barocque architecture but still shiny and eecatching.
Also the fassade of the modern arts galery, Sessession is one of my favorites.
Your capture and entry with many interesting notes is really great.
TFS and have a nice weekend with much light.

A good upward pov with a superb warm vs cold color contrast between the blue sky and the golden roofed dome. Excellent sharpness and density levels. The cross atop the dome tells us this is not an Islamic construction. Tfs!

A fine shot that exudes the feel of immense size, bold enough where focus of attention is directed to the bright light and around the circular shapes of the dome which carries weight of this shot and lends the impact. It's seamlessly executed shot, pleasantly exposed and composed. Congrats
