Between christmas and new year we spent a few very relaxed days in Vienna.
Visions of sachertorte
and people saying grussgott
the barok and roccocco
of the mind
Yes, all that is true. But with plenty of world class art on show, fine hotels and some great traditional coffee houses, Vienna makes a great destination for a city trip.
This picture is a zoomed-in view from the window of our hotel room. It shows one of the many churches of the Austrian capital. Austria is an old school catholic country.
Grüß Gott translates literally as 'God greets (you)'). It has long been the most common greeting form in Southern Germany and Austria. The salutation sometimes receives a sarcastic response from Northern (and thus mainly Protestant) Germans, such as "If I see Him" ("Wenn ich ihn sehe") or "Hopefully not too soon" ("Hoffentlich nicht so bald"). A bit silly, isn't it?
As outsiders we also found this greeting a bit strange, yet after a while we found ourselves copying it...
PS: No idea just exactly which church this is though...
Maybe someone of you can help?

hi benny. this is the baroque jesuit church of vienna. you really, interestingly did not see any snow or rain, and further, enjoyed a very nice weather with cloud and light contrasts. when you do feel like a tourist in a short-stay town, you cannot help making postcards, can you :)

You're capturing well this cityscape by a good composition and excellent tone, so it's interesting and impressive to see the church with three towers and tasteful shape. It's also impressive in the church's spire with green and city buildings with classic style.

beautiful light and angle that let the towers more evident and proud above this chaotic sea of roofs. nice job.
