Photographer’s Note

Römersteinbruch - an ancient quarry... The stone for the famous Stephansdom in Vienna came from here. And down, there's the stage hidden in the rocky hole. Those rocks witness the opera plays and passion plays as well.
The hill is full of modern stone sculptures, more than 100 of them, placed between 1959 and the 70'ies. The stone which is enjoying the view here is of the sculptures. It's the same you can see here:

Unfortunately, I don't know who made it. If you do, please let me know.
What I found on German Wikipedia: The idea to set the sculptures here came from the sculptor Mr Karl Prantl and resulted in worldwide movement. In 1958 the first "Symposion Europäischer Bildhauer" took place in St Margarethen and during 3 months 11 artists from 8 countries created the sculptures that were set on the hill. I hope I didn't mess it up and misinterpreted what I read?

The day was hot, and climbing the hill turned out to be unexpectedly hard. The view, however, was totally worth the effort - whole vicinity displayed before my eyes. The green stripes on the field down there are
the the grapevines.
And of course, I forgot to take polarizer with me.
