Photographer’s Note

The last weekend I have been in Andorra, where I tried to take many new photos, but the bad weather prevented me from doing it. In spite of it, a pause on Saturday evening, while we were in a friend's home, allowed us a short walk along the village of La Cortinada, with our dogs, and then I seized the opportunity to try some capture. It was enough late, almost 9 pm, but yet it had a bit of light in the sky, between the dark clouds loaded with rain.
The photo that I you present is the result of my first experiments with RAW, and I was working at manual way, without tripod. I saw these flowers in a shrub next to the way, the sky and the silhouette of the mountains were very attractive, and I shot my camera with help of the forced flash.
I like the result and I want to share it with you, hope that you like also.

El pasado fin de semana he estado en Andorra, donde intenté tomar muchas nuevas fotos, pero el mal tiempo me impidió hacerlo. A pesar de eso, una pausa en la tarde del sábado, mientras estábamos en casa de unos amigos, nos permitió un corto paseo por el pueblo de La Cortinada, con nuestros perros, y entonces aproveché la ocasión para intentar alguna toma. Era bastante tarde, casi las 9 pm, pero aún había un poco de luz en el cielo, entre las oscuras nubes cargadas de lluvia.
La foto que os presento es el resultado de mis primeros experimentos con RAW, y estuve trabajando en modo manual, sin trípode. Vi estas flores en un arbusto al lado del camino, el cielo y la silueta de las montañas estaban muy atractivos, y disparé mi cámara con ayuda del flash forzado.
Me gusta el resultado y quiero compartirlo con vosotros, espero que os guste también.

Hello Josep,

I really love the scene you have captured here..! the rapid transition of clouds adding the dynamism to the frame yet the static flowers add that extra flovour ..i see oyu have used the flash pretty well here....the colours are very good and the clarity is amazing..!!!

Per ser un experiment t'ha sortit d’allò més be. Una foto atractiva a la vista que no deixa de ser el que interessa. Bona feina.

Jo soc tan neòfit que no sé el que el RAW i tot reguitzell de sigles que feu servir.

Belle prise de vue et bonne composition, il me semble sentir le parfum des lilas. J'aime beaucoup ce ciel nuageux, un peu dramatique et ses superbes couleurs.

Hello Josep,
This is an attractive composition with good contrast between the branch and the dramatic sky!
Obviuosly wise to use flash this late in the day to really make the foliage stand out...

Hallo Josep!
This picture shows a very special atmosphere. Wonderful syringa and threatening clouds. The flash was very useful here and you used it very skillfully. But syringa in June ... amazing! Here it blooms in April or May.

Esta é uma foto bastante diferente daquilo que nos habituáste. Contudo, não deixa de ser muito interessante e muito bem executada. O uso do flash deu vida às flores e destacou-as do fundo escuro das nuvens carregadas. Não fosse o flash e teria ficado tudo demasiado escuro. Gosto.

Clasificaria esta imagen entre las 10 mejores que has hecho. Haces muy buen uso del espacio negativo para crear el fondo y crear la atmosfera. La decision de utilzar el flash le da un toque hasta surrealista a la foto, por que con la obscuridad del cielo, mentalmente se espera que el sujeto este oscuro tambien, pero el flash le da muy buena claridad.

Hola Josep,

Me gusta el juego de luces. La del flash que ilumina este marco natural para la foto, y la del fondo entre nubes (tienen un color precioso). Y entre las dos luces, la oscuridad de la montaña. Es un contraste curioso que deja lugar a una imagen muy seductora. Enhorabuena, amigo.

Great idea! The dark sky with dramatic clouds is very interesting, but the leaves of the bush stand out very well against the dark background because of the flash. This worked out very well, and I think I might try this sometime. Excellent!

The overcast and colored sky look gorgeous with a bit of light coming through and good inclusion of the small tree with pale purple flowers, which I think it is called 'lilac'. I like as well the silhouetted mountains and the framing.

Hola Josep, it's a fantastic capture of the florwers, under a very attractive threatening sky. The contrast is very effective as well as the atmosphere. The flash gave you a nice lighting on the flowers and I love the curved sillouette of the horizon. Excellent work, regarding the bad weather conditions.

Tu foto esta muy buena y las hojas con las flores en primer plano producen un buen contraste con las impresionantes nubes de tormenta y la silueta de la montaña, tu trabajo en RAW te ha dado muy buenos resultados, me gusta mucho tu composicion con la iluminacion del primer plano por el uso del flash.

J'aime beaucoup la profondeur de champ que tu as utilisé dans celle-ci.
Le contraste entre les deux plans ne se limite pas à elle, tant il y a deux atmosphères dans cette image.

Un buen experimento, me gusta eso de probar cosas diferentes, el resultado de tu trabajo es interesante, el fondo es muy bonito y por si solo ya es una buena fotografía, pero el primer plano de este arbusto dota a la escena de un aire completamente diferente, por cierto, bien iluminado con el flash de relleno, te animo que sigas experimentando.

It was a very successful experiment Josep. The composition is very good with the wonderful and dramatic sky in the background and the bush just framing the left side. The fill flash worked very well

La tentative est plutôt réussie et le résultat n'est pas inintéressant. Belle gestion de la lumière ici. J'aime bien le contraste entre le premier plan végétal qui se détache de ce ciel vraiment impressionnant. Il y a du avoir une belle pluie je pense. Beau travail, bravo Josep.

Hi Josep,
Great first fill flash experiment; I think a tighter crop would also look good. One of the advantages of raw is that it lets you correct white balance. I have a WB setting for flash that warms the color washed out by the flash. When I've set it wrong, photoshop lets me go in and reset it. It's almost magic, so once I get over the hassle of converting raw, I like RAW a lot. Have fun. HLJ, Pat

Normalment jo no uso el flash en aquest tipus de foto perquè pot sobreexposar la imatge. Però crec que aquí funciona força bé i crea un contrast molt interesant amb aquest cel tormentós.
