Very widespread tradition throughout the whole of Albania. People hang puppets and/or horseshoes on houses and appartments that are still being constructed (as a matter of fact, much of Albania is "in progress"), probably in order to scare away bad spirits or simpy as a mascot or lucky charm. Local women sitting on their doorstep smiled and laughed at the ignorant tourist being me, photographing their street and some of their houses.
The particular puppet on this photo is not hanging on some apartment, but apparently above the street. A string is attached to its head, but I can't possibly remember at all what was above it... |
