Photographer’s Note

This is called Tirana Lake, as far as i remember..
and i think it was somewhere in the Grand Park (Parku i Madh) which was just south of downtown Tirana.. It was a haven from the traffic and dust of the capital in those days. And the thousands of the city's inhabitants came here on holidays to play and picnic(fishing of course). The area was fairly safe, but it was best to go before dark, since police presence was scant,, (any corrections about the place are appreciated btw!)

I was staying in Albania at that time (-97 i think)..
and i was very disinterested with my poor Nikon F90?! even if i was carrying it most of the time with me
(i was very on and off i mean)..
This is one of the few shots i took over there. I was in the park around the lake (meditating! lol) and it was a wonderful sky that night, i'll never forget that!

(PS. It was developed by one of the few photo laboratories in the city centre in those days, (pretty good work from them!) scanned recently, No PP)

this is very nice Erven, i like the silhouette of the man, the boat on the light and those geourgeous colors, the light was very nice and you used it really well, very attractive photo

Marhaba Arkadesh: Its amazing to think this is near a big city. The colours are magical. This could be used in an advertisement panphlet.

I love the intensity of colours you can get in water with a sky like this and here it works so well with the guy silhouetted against it ...and as for the sky itself - phenomenal!! A lovely overall compsition - the tree is also very beautiful!

fishing in the sunset... I like those colors, and the balancing of the composition. Maybe it's a pity the stick is croped, but it was hard to do anything else.

this is a great photograph...
the silhoette adds that touch of emotion in it.
you used the velvia 50 quite often didn't you??
i've never used a 5o, have used a 100f. most people have told me that they were disappointed with the 50.. what are your opinions on it??

Hi Evren - everything is beautifully captured here, I agree Tirana is not the most photogenic city on earth, but you found a perfect scene to photograph. Also in my experience, the labs in most unlikely 3rd world places do a much better job of film processing than most so-called one hour labs in the USA.

Lovely shot Evren;

The colors and detail in the sky are very nice, and you've maximized the effect by also capturing the reflection off the lake. The silhoettes are the icing on the cake.

a fantastic photo mate, and good to know film can still shine though :-) great framing and colour definition. i would advise that you increase contrast a little, and reduce the brightness, so that the grey haze brought in by the scan is dampened. cheers mate,

Well Evren, your image has featured on the TE front page a few times recently. I could not pass it by without saying this: "Not another Sunset!". Just kidding.... this is a wonderful shot, it has everything: superb composition, excellent depth of field, great colours. The mood of the image is so tranquil. You got the fisherman and boat is just the right place. If you can do this with a Nikon F90, how much more can you do .....?

Great palette and contrast in this shot, but the composition is a little unbalanced. I can't decide witch is the main subject in the take: the man fishing or the tree.
