Kaki Tree, a photo from Berat, South

Photographer's Note

There are a number of varieties of this fruit tree. In English they seem to be called Sharon Fruit or Persimon Fruit. In Albanian this is a Kaki and it is has earned its place amids the most used fruit in the country.

I do not know the name of the tough long grass but it is so strong it will cut your hand should you try to pull it!

Je ne connais pas le nom de l'herbe en avant-plan même je n'ai jamais vu l'arbre mais ici je connais le fruit sous le nom de Kaki. Excellente composition et beau contraste avec le ciel.

Tungjatjeta Aleks. Striking composition of this almost denuded tree set against a stark background. An image with a strong mood.By the way, in Japan they dry the fruit after removing the skin. It is one of the best dry fruits I have ever eaten. In my gallery you can see my friend's dad hanging the fruit to dry. Best wishes. Klaudio.

Hello Aleks,

A very interesting note about the Persimmon or Sharon fruit. I've very occasionally seen them in the shops here but obviously they are eaten a lot more in Albania. I think I can remember eating one once - I think it was rather nice and had some little seeds in it like a tomato - is that right?

This is a beautiful portrait of the tree - no fruit to be seen on it just now - finely portrayed against the lovely blue sky and the purple mountains. The brighter red and yellowish-green grasses in the foreground make a lovely "base" for the photograph which has some lovely colours and lighting, perfect exposure and excellent sharpness.

This is a fine composition, rather moody, maybe because the almost bare tree looks like it is dying, the grass looks so rough and autumn-like and the whole area looks so desolate. But the colours are fine, the light is good and you have cropped the photo well.
