Travels on the Silk Road:
You see here the interior of the King's mosque, Xhamia e Mbretit. It was built during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Bayazit II around 1500 in Berati, Albania, in the city quarter called Mangalem. Since Berati was spared Enver Hoxha's fury of City planning it is today most interesting for it's harmonious blend of byzantine and ottoman styles. Churches, monasteries, mosques and medresas coexisted for centuries and emulated each other.
The complete Silk Road in Roman times and the Middle Age included the important connection between Rome and Byzance (today's Istanbul): Rome-Brindisi- Durres(Albania)- Elbasan- Ochrid (Macedonia)- Edirne(Turkey)-Byzance. That is why I want to present some slides of Albania, little documented on TE.
I made the shot with the compact digital camera while lying on the carpeted floor with the permission of the guardian. No flash, just a long exposition time was used. Hope you enjoy it.

Greetings Dietrich. I am impressed by your goal of following the silk Road. Is it to happen in one go? Or is it to be a collage of different visits from different years? I like this shot for its details and antiquity.Lovely rich colours and nice light. Good luck on your endeavour. Klaudio.
