Every year on March 14 the people of Albania celebrate the Summer Festival, our largest pagan festival. It is intended to celebrate the end of winter, the rebirth of nature and a rejuvenation of spirit amongst the Albanians. Although the epicenter of this festival is in Elbasan, the festival is widely celebrated throughout Albania and as far afield as the Arbėresh colonies in Italy.

This is certainly the most crowded view I have seen in Tirana. I can't imagine such crowds even on May 1 in the old days. The dense mass of people down the diagonal street, the trees and the long line of artificial flowers give the view excellent depth.

Hi Ardi. Both of your summer festival shots show lots of people but i cannot see many organised activities, just people mulling about. What does happen on this day? There must be food stalls, music, folk dances , displays. Great to see the happy faces. Regards. Klaudio.(Can you check on my profile page my google bit in Albanian and tell me if there are too many terrible errors.) Klaudio.
