Photographer’s Note
This little girl is lighting a deya on the eve of Divali in Trinidad. There's a huge population of Indians in the Caribbean nation of Trindad & Tobago. In the 1800s the British shipped Indians to work the sugar cane fields as indentured servents. About 40% of the island traces its roots to India, and the Divali celebration has gotten huge as more islanders celebrate their connection with their homeland. This shot used a flash at about two-thirds output.
