Photographer’s Note

Castries is the capital of St. Lucia. We arrived here at a rainy and stormy morning, when all weatherforecasts for the Caribbean area said that this time you will have nice climatic conditions and about 8-9 sun hours. Not in January 2005 on St. Lucia ....

Castries was founded by the French in 1650 as "Carenage" (meaning safe anchorage), then renamed in 1756 after Charles Eugène Gabriel de La Croix, marquis de Castries, commander of a French expeditionary force to Corsica that year. The city has been rebuilt, having been destroyed by fire several times, notably on June 19, 1948.

This is a place I've always wanted to visit. Even with the rain it's very pretty! :) A nice pov showing a beautiful scene. Very nice colors. TFS and have a great day!

We can see what you write, indeed the bad weather make this picture very interesting through the misty atmosphere above the mountains.
Depth and perspective are very good, also the colours and quality together with the presentation are superb.

Hallo Achim,
an sich hoffe ich ja auf gutes Wetter dieses Wochenende, wir machen im Handball unseren Fan&Friends Day 2008. Und da kommst Du mit diesem Schietwetter an. Na ja, dafür ist es ja weit weg und bietet immer noch was für das Auge. Erstaunlich gute Oberflächentexturen für Regenwetter.

We were there January 2003 for a walking holiday and had quite a bit of bad weather. January is probably not a good time although we had some beautiful weather too. A very different Carribean image from the ones we usually see on here. Your high POV works very well for the view over the harbour. Well done

Hi Achim,
I know how rainy the Caribbean can be, but even so, I am surprised to see how this reminds so much a view of Northern Europe... in Winter!
It's a lovely image, very wisely and nicely composed. I like the way you placed the street and the colourful wall and the tree on the FG. I like the presence of the men dressed with the yellow rain clothes.

It's the atmosphere that kills here. I can see a heavy rains from a distance, I like how the foliage in perspective leads us the rainy hills. Well done.

It also rains in these areas !!! In spite of this gloomy weather, the colors arise well on the image and the vegetation brings interesting contrasts. Unusual, but a beautiful and interresting image of the Caribbean.

Hallo Achim,
eine tolle Aufnahme trotz dem ungünstigen Wetter. Die Farben leben und der Regen lässt die Berge im Hintergrund geheimnisvoll erscheinen. Im Endeffekt ist das Bild vielleicht noch schöner (und wahrscheinlich origineller) als es beim hellen Sonnenlicht gewesen wäre.
