Inky Stream

| The drive-in volcano in St. Lucia is a little bit like Yellowstone National Park in the United States in smell, albeit it is a much smaller place. This iron and sulfur rich stream emerges from the perpetually overflowing fumaroles just beyond this image. People are not allowed near the fumaroles because on one occasion 20 years ago a tour guide fell through and suffered second degree burns from the superheated steam below the surface. At one time during the nineteenth century, this location was used as a mineral bath and spa for the colonial landowners on the island, and many remnants of the infrastructure still remain. The jet black water instantly reminded me of an oil spill and the terrible impacts of such events. This liquid is locally known as a cure-all medicine however, and is used in treating everything from psoriasis to aging! |

Hi Daniel. The portrait orientation was the best way to fit everything in. I like the light and colors. A bit more DOF could be useful for your foreground. Very nicely done Daniel.
