Photographer's Note

Our canoe approaches the Emberá Indian Village in eastern Panama. We had to cross the Chagres River, which is the source of most of the water in the Panama Canal. This is the only access to the village. We spent a delightful afternoon here with the wonderful residents. They live in a semi-primitive manner, maintaining their native language and style of dress, but do have electricity and some other modern conveniences.
