The history of this cathedral and its home city reflects in many ways the history of Nicaragua: Spanish rulers who founded this city named it after Granada in Spain to commemorate the Christian Reconquista of that ancient city from the Moors who had ruled there for centuries; smaller churches were originally built on this site, but the first substantial cathedral to stand here was destroyed by the American William Walker who attempted to use mercenary armies to establish colonies in Nicaragua under his personal control - he was later executed in Honduras; early in the twentieth century the new cathedral was completed in neo-classical style, and, today, looks out over the shady, peaceful, family-filled Parque Colon and its food stalls, craft vendors and park benches.

Hi William, Stunned sharpness with nice details of everything. The blue sky gives nice colours to the composition. The people are adding life to this quiet street. Best regards

L'architecture de cette cathédrale est magnifique avec ses deux tours et son balcon. La lumière est parfaite pour en apprécier les couleurs et les détails. Bravo.

hello William, We rarely see photos from Nicaragua so it is very interesting. Nice cathedral in colonial style. I like the inclusion of the biker and the man in the old cart for invalids. Beautiful colours in sunny day.
Warm regrads MAlgo

you did very well to find a view point of this very attractive Cathedral without the distraction of telegraph wires etc.
The colours are a sheer delight whilst the architectural features are sharp and very clear.
The cyclists add a nice human presence as well as giving scale to a well composed photograph.
Best regards Les.
