In June this year I spent a few days on the Island Ometepe in Nicaragua. While going for a walk along the lake board I came across this species of toad. First I did not see it because its skin is almost as grey as the stones. As I got too close it jumped away and that's when I noticed it. It almost gave me a freight - they are at least 20-30cm long. Big fat toads.

This is an extremely good close-up of a fine-looking toad. The toad and the rocks are very sharp, and I like seeing the background waves out of focus but still discernible. They frame your big fat toad very nicely. Well seen and well executed!

This toad is very strange, never seen one like that. I like the sharpness of the image, making the toad very real indeed..

What a toad!
This is an excellent shot -- well done as a photo, and educational with a bit of humor in that toad's expression.
You will do well with this shot!

The face only a mother could love. you did really well here with a moving target here Christian, the wave in the background timed to perfection and narrow depth of field used to great effect. well done, jez

Une photo extraordinaire qui nous traine dans l'imaginaire de la préhistoire.

Hi Christian, great capture. Love the sharpness of the toad and the lighting - both flash and natural. The slight tilt gives a spontaneous feel, which I suppose it had to be considering how shy our friend must be, and makes the clarity of this photo even more remarkable.
Looking forward to seeing these toads when I visit Nicaragua next year!
