Photographer’s Note
latest photos tried to show how to appropriate childhood, here the troups are concentrated in front of the cathedrale of Managua,a hight symbol for this very catholic people.
There is no contradiction between revolution and religion;because for the "sandinist",Christ has been the first martyr of the power, the first man to defend the poors...This is the "theorie of liberation" that we can find in others countries of south america. We can compare this movement to the islamic one, which is winning people because of poverty.A "special" point of view, but it works!!

Hi,
Great documentation, great reporter shot without a gun :)
This scenery looks really powerfull with those people. I don't like maybe in normal life such mix of religion and weapons but in photography this is a great theme, inspiring...
Good B&W tonality and proportions between the mass and the church and sky, angry looking sky,
really good picture,
best regards,
maki

Striking picture. The subject, the moment, way you shot one. World Press Photo? Think about it..
Best, Agnieszka

A superb one. Better than a lot of professional magazine photos. Technically without any criticism. Even the light diagonal shift is suiting because making the picture authentic.
The scene is impressing and the contrast of weapons and church underlines the atmosphere.
Not least I like the photographers comment.
At all 2 points are not enough.

Nice work, the harmony of the guns and columns of the cathedral is interesting, as they seem to be conflicting elements. You handled the lighting well, as well.
Thanks!

Hello Howe,
what a strong compostion you present us.
All these guns pointed to the sky create a dramatic scene.
And the cloudy sky enhances even more this dramatism.
Perfect contrast and light.

Salut Patrick,

HI, I'm not going to critique the image because its damn near perfect ! But I will comment on the subtext. This is one powerful image..maybe one of the best I have seen in recent times. The guns held aloft remind me of hundreds of crucified people..gathered around their tormentor..quite a metaphor for the power of religion over a population.
I have to say ..your framing is exquisite.
Ciao
