While going for a stroll around the suburbs of Granada I came across a cock fight. This is apparently very popular there. It was their one-year anniversary and people from all over region came with their cocks to compete.
This man appeared to be the referee but he also competed with his cook. After the first round his cock was really overflown with blood and looked terrible. So he took the cocks head into his mouth and sucked out the blood from its airways - so it could breath again. And indeed in the second round the cock was again fighting. But despite his effort the cock lost eventually and died on the spot. A very bloody event.

A disgusting sport or pastime. But, it's part of the world we live in. You captured a moment of a common event there. Nice a nice scene, but a good photo. A very good note too. TFS.

Keep it for us to see, Christian.
The world is such a diverse place, and that's what makes it so intersting.
A picture to study, to elaborate upon. To argue. to discuss. To fight about. To have a different opinions.
You did it, pal.
You evoked the discussions.
And that's what really counts.
From any point of view - AN EXTRAORDINARY PHOTOJOURNALISTIC WORK.
Two thumbs up.
Maybe I shall repeat, just in case of misunderstaning...
Very good photography, Mr. Roth..
Never saw one in my entire life.
I don't think I have many chances left to see it...
And certainly, I'm not looking forward to..
154 viewers and two points...?
Do you want me to express what I think about such pattern ?
Better not...The chances are I'd be expelled from the TE pages..

An excellent passtime. I remember well going to cock fights and cheering for the best cock. The gladiator of the chicken kingdom. I know this type of activities may be upsetting for many people but for us is not different from rodeo or bullfights. Nice picture showing a cultural activity still popular in many parts of the world.

log time no see a picture so much in the TE spirit, because more than beautiful images, TE is about culture.
i can imagine the passion of the man for the sport for doing what you described in your note.
cock fights were banned here many years ago, but - i remember i was a kid - very very popular here too.
is it a sport for "macho men"?

I don't mind the content of the photo, but I think it could have been done better... a stronger awareness of the background to eliminate the glaring light that commands too much attention. Also, I don't like the head growing out of the man's shoulder, a different angle to have him there completely or not at all would have been better. 3rd, you are too much in this scene, wait until the man isn't looking straight at you, give us the feeling of being a fly on the wall. I would like to see more from this kind of thing, it is good content with a lot of potential for strong images.

I'm a bit surprised that people are more willing to tell their opinions in the forum, not here as critique.
Certainly a TE shot that tells a lot of local customs over there. Perfect timing showing the gory details. All seem to be quite serious of the event. Appearance of the shot seems rather grainy. Digital noise amplified by shapening and contrast increase?

A controversial image that will cause strong feelings.
Personally I like this shot a lot. It brings us something that is very common and acceptable in many places - people take this event very seriously and we should respect that fact.
The image has a strong visual impact and I like a lot the people watching from the back.
As the image is quite grainy I think a B&W version is worth trying - will even look less bloody..
