Photographer's Note

Zinc roofed huts, tenderly built with wooden bunks, and certainly not the sort of housing built to stand hurricanes that have flattened the cay in the past.

There's no electricity, no gas to cook over, and water had to be brought from the main land many miles a way.

You could say the living on the fisherman's island was basic in the extreme, a hard way of life... so much so that Runcanny here was sent to the cays to learn to fish and stay out of trouble! After all there's not much he could do other than fish and sleep, sleep and fish.

At 15 he was the youngest kid living on the cays and this was his yard, which he shared with 3 others. Note the nice green weed hanging from the doorway - that's actually mint! LOL! And you see that Dutch pot there, well that's where that mint gets put every morning to make a nice cup of tea. And also where the fish gets cooked, at the end of the day, when the fishermen come back from sea.
