Met these guys at the end of a mountain road on the way to visit my stepfathers village and to take a peek at an active open pit gold mine. Jamaicans are up and happening early in the cool AM's. So smart.

I love engaging folks I meet in conversation about current events in thier daliy lives.
Then asking to take a picture.
We sat and talked for about an hour and when I asked to take a shot one guy said, "We thought you'd never ask." ;-)

These guys were born and raised on this mountain. Spent some time in the city but came home for the fresh food, looking after family and guenine appreciation of rural life.
But they were finding their mountain slowly bought out, for cheap, by a foreign gold mine company. This company was mining open pit style which has soured the agricultural land and water resources. People have left, there have even been police shootouts, murders and Scotland Yard investigations. The morning I showed up the gold mine workers were on their first day of strike. Since then the company has left Jamaica and the land is locked up. The trials of the police officers are in Jamaican news today.

Would love to chat again with these folks to have an local update.

Converted color to B&W using the channel mixer with monochrome checked.

I would really like to see this picture in colour!! why did you go for B&W?

thank you for the comment, and in insight into local life.

I think the B&W works well for this photo-documentary which you have given us so well. I wish they were just standing a little closer together so no one's arm would get chopped off.

The BW works fine here. The Cam a few step to the left, could have include the entire guy on the left, but more important, to remove the tree under the head of the guy in the center. Good work.

you really captured some interesting looks on their faces. espically the one on the left with his shirt on backwards (i think). i like it in b & w. great job.
