Photographer’s Note

No real message today. I'm tired and ready for a break so I'm posting a photo of people relaxing on the edge of Kingston Harbour. (See my note on 2009-05-09 for a few words about the Kingston Waterfront). Have a good weekend everyone.

Hello Mary, again visiting your gallery.

This image has a strong power of composition, well balanced with the elements within the frame.

Although my concept, the main tree is very focused. I had been off the tree, so that the palm of the right, not left in the picture. In short, concepts are just personal.

The horizon is well aligned and people are distributed well within the stage.

A plesant scene of life very well collected. The silhouets of the peoples in teh FG give a great graphic effect. Great depht too and compoistion well balanced.

I like the 2 symmetrical sections of the frame, created by the central tree, & the partially silhouetted people on the esplanade in both sectors. Good sharpness & shadow detail, with excellent color. Tfs!

I prefer this one to the following coast picture you posted. I found graphic impact here much more ionteresting with people looking like "chinese shadows" (don't know if translation works, I hope you'll understand :) ).
The tree in centre with his thin leaves also contributes to this impression. perhaps a b&w would also have been interesting here.

Hi, Mary,

I like many things about this photo.

(1) The lighting is just about perfect. I like the partial silhouette effect. The balance between clarity and mystery works well.
(2) The photo has strong clarity throughout.
(3) The horizon line is nicely placed with regard to the people (although it gets a bit close to cutting the head of the man next to the trunk.)
(4) I find strong trees highly photogenic and your centrally placed one has nice qualities.
(5) The placement of the people across the frame is very nicely balanced.

This is a matter of personal taste, I suppose, but I certainly would have cropped out the bit of vegetation in the left foreground. I would be tempted, too, to remove the palm tree on the right.

Hi Mary,
From the thumbnail, the curving branches of the tree echo the arches of a church. Ah well, my son says the mountains are his church; for me, it is the sea.
