View from Irishtown Photo

Photographer’s Note

High above the capitol, Kingston, lies Irishtown, the residence of the workers in the coppermines of the Cooperidge, 6 km down the road. 3 km above Irishtown lies Redlight; guess who lived there.
Under a layer of yellow smog you can see Kingston at sealevel while you are here at 1100 meters.

What lush hills of Jamaica, with such a sprawling city situated at the foot. Steaming hot during the day, yet cold at night. A country full of contrast, like wood and water. Great shot again, Gerrit.

The vegetation is wonderfully lush, and the little sprinkling of red adds a nice contrast to the greenery. You had an excellent POV and I like how you have split the foregound and background almost 50/50 diagonally.

Dag, Gerrit. Een groene voorgrond en daaronder een indrukwekkende luchtvervuiling. Ik vroeg me eerst waar die gele kleur vandaan kwam en dan heb ik de nota gelezen. Je ademt zeker beter in de hoogte dan in Kingston. Ik weet niet of hun atleten in zulke condities moeten trainen...

Hi Gerrit,
It's a common place saying this, so I try to save it only for special occasions and this is one of them: it reminds a beautiful painting. It's more usual to say this about views that look more naturalist, often with more pastel colours, but on this one the intense colours, the contrast, the sharpness, the wildly tropical lush of the FG and the strange yellow haze of the BG gives it an attractive surreal / impressionist mood. I like it very much!
