In Port Marie they catch merlins. You can see it on the boats where merlins are painted. It's hard to believe they catch such a giant fish on a line and get it a board a little bark with two men.
When they get it on the boat they put a sack on the 'sword' to avoid damage by the ferocious moving fish.

Hello Gerrit,

I didn't realize Merlins are that big. Interesting shot with the fisherman trying to move such a large fish. The image is well composed with good colours and sharpness. Thanks Gerrit.

Hi Gerrit,
A very interesting capture indeed. Amazing achievement this fishermen did ... worth posting in the newspaper. To catch this monster on a hand line is short is just fascinating ... let alone on a small boat ... what an adventure. Excellent work! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hi Gerrit,

very nice of a daily life scene. It's kind of sad to see the dead fish but that's life. We need to eat and someone needs to make money with that. Very good work!
Regards,
Carlos

Kath

The fact that this was caught on a line is interesting. A good reportage shot, nicely framed.
Best wishes
Mark

Gerrit bonjour.
Merci de la précision pour ce sac sur le rostre du merlin, on comprend mieux la photo. C'est une belle photo reportage sur ce dur métier de pêcheur.
Jacques

Gerrit,
it seems to be a dangerous business to catch a merlin, at least the bag on the sword implies that. What a huge fish, the man gives the right scale and - yes - it is amazing to see that these fishes are catches with a line and two people pulling it out of the water.
Peter

Hi Gerrit,
Fantastic picture. Marvelous colours and a very good point of view. Congratulations

Hi Gerrit

A superb daily life shot, with a wonderful colour contrast between the brown skin tones & the cyan sea. Good sharpness & nice reflections in the wet sand. Well done!

Bedankt!

Prettige dag verder,
John.

Dag Gerrit,

Fa waka? You caught a really biggest hunt while fisherman is busy for preparing. Powerful waves with white foams and his natural, uninformed pose with reflections are runs here very well. Congratulations.

Best Regards,

Ertugrul
PS. Are you giving break some times?

Hi Gerrit,
Beautiful shot about this difficult activity because to held this great fish isn't easy. Good POV with beautiful colors and the reflections on wet sand became very interesting. Good job. Regards, Consuelo

Bonjour Gerrit,
impressionnant ce merlin, on sait que les poissons sont vifs et très souples, le danger de se faire embrocher n'est pas nul.
Une photo spectaculaire sur cette pêche audacieuse.
Une excellente qualité technique.
Regards.
Daniel.

Interesting daily life post, Gerrit. Big fish indeed, taking almost the whole width of the frame. The small waves are excellent as background, in attractive diagonals and good sharpness... regards, Daniel

Hi Gerrit,
Great nature shot of this hardy fisherman landing this giant sports fish. It does seem amazing how two men can handle such a beast. Great colros and detials.

Hello Gerrit
A very interesting post. I guess these fishes wash onto Indian shores as well, but I don't know whether they're caught here. Excellent colours for the very good daily life scene!

Angshu
