Photographer’s Note
As there are not many documentary photos of Haiti on TE (and as I discovered TE while preparing to go there, desperately searching for photos on the net), I think it could be useful to post this series of 3 photos although none is really good : all taken hastily in the smallest size, 2 of them sitting in the front seat of a car, no time to compose. (NB : on this photo : "LAPARITION" written on the grey building = "L'apparition", a Christian reference about the Holy Spirit appearing to Mary to announce that she will give birth to Jesus - people in Haiti are very religious : 100% voodoo and Christian in the same time).
I did not dare posting the 3rd one as "original post", although it is the one that I prefer as there is a story attached to it : "New Hope" : we met them very briefly, preparing to leave : 2 street children cared for by FOMAED (Fondation Miragoanaise d’Aide aux Enfants Défavorisés = a small, local charity financed by local businessmen, created and run by an enthousiastic, dedicated team of persons – it takes care of street children, abandonned babies and pregnant girls, giving them access to school or to informal education). The baby girl had been found abandoned some days earlier and was given a new « mother » who would bathe, dress, feed her, herself having had a very difficult time as a street youngster (no detail was given, but one can easily imagine, in that harbour city) ; getting such a responsability gave her back some pride and she is now learning new skills thanks to the organisation.
Here, another view from the same city, residential area with a view on the blue sea...

Hello Catherine
You have a great story behind this photo, Catherine, and that is a very humane side of photography which I must congratulate you for achieving the objective of your shots.
Very nicely captured crowd of people on top of a small pickup, and tightly framed here to show a busy section of local township.
The social life is so different shown in this photo and you must have eye opening experience to enjoy your stay in Haiti.
I must also commend your mobility, and to really set in motion your plan to see the world around.
This is as good a photo that you have shared to show us that part of life in Haiti, Catherine, and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, bill

Hi Cath. It is needless to say how beautifully you portray the very common sight in different parts of the world. The same street scene here too. The decision to put the surrogate mother in WS seems to be well taken. Note too is informative --especially on the service for the needy and downtrodden. Regards.

PS. Not being able to regularly visit TE as I am moving to Kolkata by this month end. Lot of packing and listing and delinking! Shall try once settled down.

Amities sinceres

Hi Cath,
Yes, I do like the picture of the new mother in the WS better. This one shows the street life more, but the other one has a really wonderful expression.
Well done,
Shaeri

Salut Catherine,
