The Citadelle Laferrière is a large mountaintop fortress in northern Haiti, approximately 27 km south of the city of Cap-Haïtien and 8 km uphill from the town of Milot. It was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1982. The Citadel is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Haiti. Visitors are encouraged to rent a horse for the uphill trek. The first portion of the 11 km trail is navigable by 4WD vehicle.
Most of the interior of the Citadel fortress itself is accessible to visitors, who may also climb the numerous staircases to the fortress's roof. On a clear day, the city of Cap-Haïtien and the Atlantic Ocean can be seen to the north. Old scanned shot in b&w version

Like a graphic, you see the side of the tower, the angle is good, but the image resolution is not good
Have a good evening

This is really like a scene from a film, and accordingly invokes a great sense of mystery about what lies at the top of the hill in that fortress. the black and white and lower quality makes me think of older horror films from the 30's, I think that's what makes it so mysterious to me. Nice one, a very unique shot in this world of 18mega pixel cameras. Cheers

The citadel looks quite mysterious and desolate, maybe the B&W treatment increases that effect. Seeing it from here it's hard to imagine how you can get up there at all. An intriguing composition from a country not visited by so many people.

Interesting atmospheric, blurry, foggy, monochrome citadel hill top vision. Though I question Wikipedia's statement that Laferriere is the largest.
Check out El Morro citadel on the island of Puerto Rico.
Thanks for sharing,

I am not sure about this being the largest fort in Americas once Castillo of Cartagena in Colombia is told do be the largest one.
interesting view of the structure with the forest around.

I am a softie when it comes to old photos. In spite of the motion blur and the lack of contrast at the top, the ages of the photo covers over a multitude of shortcomings. Excellent composition!

Through the old pic. I can realize how impressed you were with the place, prominently high above, the fortress dominating the surrounding area.
Can imagine how green is the forest there(or was).
Keep showing old stuff, most intriguing.

Hi Miguel ,
This is a very atmospheric shot of the Citadel fortress. Nice viewing angle looking upwards towards the building and the murky grey sky behind.

Amazing image with the remains of the fortress on the top of that steep hill, I saw the image was placed in Europe, not in the Caribbean, I like the image in B & W that reminds me a lithograph by their shades of gray and black.
Have a good evening.
All the best.
