Photographer's Note

Gonaïves is a city in northern Haiti. It has a population of about 300,000 people (2011 census). The city was founded in 1422 by American indians, they named it "Gonaibo". The old town with the cathedral, the beach on the picture, vodoo centers and Rabotteau slum are the major places to visit. Many natural disasters affected Artibonite area : flood on july 26th 1996, hurricane Georges on october 7th 1998, hurricane Ivan on september 10th 2004, hurricane Jeanne on september 18th 2004 and hurricane Hanna on september 1st 2008 killed 529 people.
