Under the Volcano

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Volcan Pacaya is an active volcano near Guatemala city, with an altitude of around 2,500 meters above sea level. You can climb Pacaya all the way to the lava fields in a couple of hours from San Vicente, but not to the crater on the very top, which is too dangerous and unstable.
Being around the lava, and walking very close to it was a very intense experience for me. The barren fields and the sense of solitude brought to my mind Malcolm Lowry's 'Under the Volcano', so I rushed down to town for a very deserved cold beer. |

Wow. It does look intense. A hard subject to make photographically interersting. But you do a good job here. The glowing orange stands in stark contrast to the grey colors. Good job to exclude the sky to preserve this contrast. But also a good decision to include some background. I agree that this calls for a beer. But perhaps you have brought a steak to barbeque?
Best,
Mikkel
Hi Daniel,
i guess not many wouldn't be scared enough not to go so close to this red hot lava...luckily for you you had your cold beer waiting in town...cheers, arturo
