These pretty little Señoritas followed me around in San Andrés Xecúl, giggling. I didn't really get it why, but then my teacher told me they were probably hoping I'd give them some sweets. They let me take their picture and I told them to wait while I stepped inside a house to look at "San Simón", the holiest saint in that Mayan religion. As I went outside and was going to get them some candy and sodas, they had already gone off, tailing other tourists.
Besides being the hometown of the holy San Simón figure, San Andrés Xecul is also famous for it's extremely brigh-yellow churches that stand out from the overall grey houses. It's an easy trip from Quetzaltenango to visit the little town. |
