Photographer’s Note
This is a view of the cloister of the Santa Clara Church.
It was rebuilt after an erathquake in the 1734, by the architect Diego de Porres.
In the year 1774 it was seriously damaged by another one earthquake and the cupola of the church collapsed in the 1874.
In the 1995 that wonderful cloister was completely abandoned and some families live there under the arches of the cloister.
We visited Santa Clara for more than one hour, completely alone except few local people.
Witout the cars and motorbikes noise, without other tourists like us, and just with that wonderful Spanish Architecture ruined all around and with few local people with typicall clothes and dresses...without any signs of the modern time...we were came back of some centuries.

I know that from some years there are some renovation works on the Church and also on the Cloister of Santa Clara.
Both are part of the World Heritage of Unesco, as the whole city of Antigua Guatemala

Hi Paolo,
An old image, lack of quality, but taken in a fantastic surrounding, with a great atmosphere. Composition is well taken, this image really deserves a good scanner to restore it completly.
Regards, Henk

ciao Paolo, bella scena e composizione....A mio parere soffre sempre un pò a livello di qualità a causa della scansione, ma resta una bella foto di vita quotidiana di questo paese!
Bravo e buona giornata!

Ciao Mr. Dr. Mirto ;-)
Okay techs are not great, but I like that with this sepia you delivered us a nearly original view from 1734...
I also doubt that back in 1734 or even 1995 you could shoot that one with a digital ixus ;-)
Buona giornata,
Jean-yves

You are very accomplished at making aged-looking images. This one reminds me of one of those etched drawings in an old book. Interesting scene of the seller with her child busy helping.

hi paolo
Interesting setting with the bw variant. The inclusion of the woman and child essential for the result. Scanning always a challenge and here even more with the difficult in/outdoor light. But in the kind if faded bw version the result looks ok.

Good idea to use monotones. It looks as a life scene in the early 1900's.
Thanks for the note.
Thanks,

were you hanging with HR Wells again? it actually looks like you went back in time! I think that a little bit of monochrome noise would be more real. Anyway it looks great.

I like these old time illustration type photos you upload from time to time, Paolo. There is a genuinely timeless quality to them that one cannot fake. They set one dreaming of travel and far away places...

Since I'm not quite able to explain some poor quality technicalities of this photo (it's only ten years old!) let's concentrate upon its message.
And it's quite clear.
The old postcards photography is here, with all its charm and antique look.
The back layer! What a pleasant sepia of an old lithograph taken away from the Felix Nadar' documentaries.
Great , experimental, entertaining...
Anything else, gentlemen ?
cheers

ciao paolo,
lets forget about the tech problems, still - the charm of this old image is just great, with the exceptional mood, and really good handling of the light,
