In a change from my usual landscape/mountain pics I thought I should post some with humans in them, hence this short series from Guatemala (unfortunately taken before I had a decent camera).
This was taken on the steps of the Church of Santo Thomas (as so many are) in the colourful market town of Chichicastenango. On sundays there are often religious processions, led by the 'cofradias' (religious brotherhood), and here you can see 2 elder members, who are elected to this position by the community, and Saint Tomas with his white horse behind.
The procession involved a lot of incense and a guy holding the white horse image and pretending to ride it around (in a very monty python way). I'll post an image of this as a WS.
The christianity that the locals practise here is very interesting, fused with Mayan pre-christian beliefs. More on this soon. |

Without meaning any disrespect to religion and to anyone's belief system, I find this photo really funny.
The horse behind looks like he would be stomping on the men's shoudlres (if it were a real horse). The men lok funny too with their colorful outfit which contrasts well with their very derious faces. I really like the exposed knee.
Great framing too, with the curious eyes peeking from behind.

Yeah I have been there, great market with a lot of different/colorful people, really worth a visit.
