Antigua is a city in the central highlands of Guatemala famous for its well-preserved Spanish Baroque influenced architecture as well as a number of spectacular ruins of colonial churches. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city had a peak population of some 60,000 in the 1770s; the bulk of the population moved away in the late 18th century.
Central Park (Parque Central) is the heart of the city. The reconstructed fountain there is a popular gathering spot. Off to the side of the Central Park, the Arco de Santa Catalina is among the many notable architectural landmarks of La Antigua. But dip off onto the quieter side streets, and the old colonial charm remains. Each entry way and building retains it's old world beauty, and this colorful home with a fantastically decorated wooden arched door is a common site in the unique town.
La Antigua is noted for its very elaborate religious celebrations during Lent (Cuaresma), leading up to Holy Week (Semana Santa) and Easter (Pascua). Each Sunday in Lent, one of the local parishes sponsor a Procession through the streets of Antigua. Elaborate and beautiful artistic carpets predominantly made of dyed sawdust, flowers, pine needles and even fruits and vegetables adorn the processions' path.
While it may be "the" tourist destination for Guatemala, the town is no doubt a must-see when visiting this fascinating little country in the northern part of Central America

Doors and windows are a favorite of mine, especially with colors and shapes like you have here. Nicely done.

What a splash of vivid colors so eye catching. Good crop to get the essence of this city.

una bella composizione, dettata da un ottimo taglio.
La porta e la finestra sono bene evidenziate dal colore forte della parete.

Kia ora Alex,
Doors & windows always make great subjects & your photo here is no exception. I like the contrasting colours & the decorative detail of the door. Great shot. Cheers, Neil

I love the colors and the geometric shapes. It is on the verge of being abstract and I do like abstract photography. Well seen and well rendered.
