Photographer’s Note
late evening light on (past) three volcanoes:
-- Atitlan (3537 meters)
-- Toliman (3158 meters)
-- Cerro de Oro.
the same three can be seen in the left part of the frame here.
there is some truth to the saying, that the lake never looks the same... here, some casual proof (using different views across the same lake) of that assertion:
-- volcan San Pedro
-- que vida...
-- window

Hi Kristaps,
This is an amazing composition. Beautiful color of the clouds and sky and the golden shades in the water is amazing. The framing is just perfect to make it a picture postcard.
Wonderful work.

Hi, Kristaps.
It sure looks like your trip to Guatemala was a freaking good one, most certainly from a photographic point of view. So far nothing but great posts, and this one in no exception. Silky quality, stunning contrast and colors, magic atmosphere. Hey, paisa`... you got The Don's blessing! Excellent shot, whichever way you wanna look at it! Have a great day, see ya soon,
The Don.

nice one, even though the colours make the scene a bit hellish. as Fulvio says - silky quality, I like a lot how polished the photo seems. the textures of the water in the foreground add a nice sense of restless movement, really great shot.
best,
K.

Hi Kristaps,
It seems your are enjoying the "dark side" :) These four photos are the prove of what we can (you in this case) do with the same theme. One different than the other, totally different mood, including the comparison between this and "Volcan San Pedro" post. That's why I like photography...forgot to say that I like this too!

Carlos

To the best of my knowledge it's an extraordinary photo, Kristaps.
what;s so special about it ?
The colors...
The colors built this picture...
Not the shapes, not the theme...
The colors...
Incredible, well balanced palette of colors.
That gently accented glemerring patch of light on the water ???
A master stroke.
In awe...

Yes yes...just how I like it!
Dark with glimps of light (colour). It just brings the best of it, doesn't it?
Fascinating atmopshere...creepy but charming.
Isolating but warm.
Dark but bright.
This one would look so perfect in my gallery... :P
My compliments Kristaps.
It is trully striking.

Now this one I like a lot. Kristaps, this is a friggin great shot. I love the hard shadows and rich colors and since that night in Newport I don't look at night or evening shots as too dark. Superb post.

Hi, Kristaps -
Difficult shot here, and there is a lot of negative space especially in the LR, which bothers me. Other than that, it's a fantastic image.
Best,
Dan

Allô Kristaps!
J'aime beaucoup tes dernières photos incluant le Volcan San Pedro. Dans le noir c'est spécial et les couleurs du ciel sont merveilleuses de même que les reflets sur le lac. Beau travail.
Cordiales salutations,

Hi Kristaps,
Amazing cloud formation here letting brilliant golden light through to reflect in the riffling surface of the mountain lake.
The billowing cloud bank covering the mountains right up to the triple peaks makes for a very somber image.

I have recently added a photo on Flickr to my favs titled "A Prelude to Revolution", I loved the title! and the photo...more dramatic mood than in yours, but it did remind me of this one. I really like the colours here, so strong...but those clouds make the photo for me. A beauty!

Bonjour Kristaps,
une photo impressionnante par la qualité de ce ciel, ses couleurs et la proximité de ce géant redoutable. Je dois avouer n'avoir jamais approché un volcan d'aussi près.
Excellent POV et cadrage, malgré l'obscurité, de très belles lumières;
Bien à toi.
Daniel.

Here's proof if we needed it that the best sunset/rises need some clouds and some water for reflected colour. There is an amazing array of clouds and the bright orange ones steal the show. You also have to be congratulated in finding a POV to line up the three volcanoes in such a way.

Dear Kristaps, I think that I prefer this one, anyway the sight of these vulcanoes on the shores of a lake is really spectacular. And the sharpness and details, perfect.
Happy new year to you too !
I just answered to your remark between "atheists" and "seculars" about my photo in the church st. Catherine in Brussels, a bit late but better late than never...
Have a great start of 2009,
Cath.

Greetings, Kristaps,
I love this photo. The 3 distinct layers of clouds are incredible, and the setting sunlight blazing on the thunderhead is breathtaking. Personally I like the darkness and the negative space in the image. It creates mood and draws my eye toward the light, and toward the tallest volcano - which is especially highlighted by the parting of the clouds. Gorgeous. Thank you!
Best Regards, Rachel
