The Terminal Market. A market located at the main Chicken Bus terminal in Guatemala City, and spanning some 4 blocks. It has it's own police force--men dressed as civilians and on the lookout for thieves. If caught stealing, the consequences are severe.
There isn't a thing that cannot be purchased here it seems like, and all the meats, fruits, and vegetables are the freshest around--the fish being caught around 2am that morning and immediately transported to this hectic center point of commerce and transport.
Rarely frequented by foreigners, our hostel's manager brought us here while buying fruits for the business. As he shook hands with people along the way, it was a fantastic insight to a very real Guatemalan experience and way of daily life.
