I am back in market of Chichicastenango (previous posts are here), where this woman was calmly doing her handiwork while the chaos of market was happening all around her. her tent had light plastic roof, so for once I had nice and even light instead of usual dramatic patterns of light and shadow. I was blinded by the colours for the moment, but after regaining my vision I asked if I could take a photo. without missing a beat she calmly nodded, and continued her handiwork.
RAW, ISO 500, spot metering.

splendido ritratto ambientato caratterizzato da colori davvero splendidi.
E' bello vedere scene di persone che mantengono vive le tradizioni.

Hello Kristine - I love textiles and your vibrant shot drew my eye immediately; beautiful chaos! The piece the lady is working on stands out well against the patterns and colours that surround her and "ground" the image well. TFS Best regards Rosemary

reading your note is like hearing an answer to my first thought about this picture :)
yes, all the colours and patterns... a challenge for the eye and for the sensor. I like how she blends into her surroundings - she is making the embroidered cloths, she wears them, the colour spectrum is harmonious and actually not tiring at all, once you observe closely what it's made of. the light was also nice, even and soft, and I guess that played its role in bringing out the livelihood and brilliancy of the scene without making it too aggressive for the eye.
she looks tranquil and unaware of what goes around her - a sign of balance and inner peace, I'd say :)
have a good weekend,

She is almost camouflaged by the vibrant colors of those textitles behind her if not because of the piece she is working on! I had similar experience abt 3years ago in East Java Indonesia where I waited patiently for a suitable subject to walk past to match and camouflagae a wall graffiti but without success. Congrats for your trained eyes, Well done. Congrats

the lady dressed up in the colourful clothes looks as if she was a part of the bright coloured patchwork herself.

Typical Chichicastenango. The emroidery from there are for me the most beautiful in the world. I have on the wall two such pieces, two table cowers, a balnket, a bed cover... wonderful portrait of this woman surrounded by har masterwork.
