Chichicastenango (or "Chichi") is a city in the district of Quiche.
There, every Thursday and Friday there's an impressive market of the typical products of Guatemala that you can't miss.
There I found this woman who was selling (well....she was trying to sell according to the picture) carpets and typical "mantos" (sorry, I don't know how to translate it...)...but I think it was a bad day for she.
I hope you like it

Nice travel portrait. Overall, I like the fact she is dressed like the thing she is selling. It is giving a graphic strengh to this photo.

She certainly is blending with her merchandise, and it does look like a boring day for her. A nice casual daily life portrait.

I like this portrait, the lady surrounded by the typical andean colors.
Very south american

Hi Oscar, nice portrait of the Chichicastenango woman. I liked so much the Gautemala handicraft, specially all embroidery and self woven items like these here. My backpack after the visit was so heavy... Splendid place, splendid people there.
Thanks for sharing

Gran, gran "serie", tremendo retrato, otra vez! Felicidades!

Slow business makes a cool portrait. Nice colours and patterns. Hard to say whare carpet ends and her clothes begin.

I love those colorful textiles of South and Central America. Representative of their thousands of years of cultural heritage and their colorful dreams...
The saleslady's selfconfident pose is another story ;)

O: an irresistible foray into patterns - of course your friend's inscouciant nonchalance has a neutral effect. best regards, c

angie-barcelona (2784) 2009-10-02 7:35
sí que has posat fotos aquests dies...

hmm... the lady looks a bit bored... or tired... but definitely not happy! I hope the next day (or days) was more successful for her in her sales!
Very original photo-portrait of a lady in the national clothes among the picturesque national carpets and "mantos" :)
I like the composition :)
pablominto (53744) 2009-10-02 23:17
I try to figure out what her expression means... but no, I give in!
Her merchandise is colourful like her dress, hand woven if I'm not wrong...
A well framed, mysterious portrait!
InasiaJones (31230) 2009-10-04 1:35
Your subject's skintone is the only regular surface and stands out from the surrounding geometric patterns and textures.
Good composition and interesting disposition of the arms, forming a giratory movement.

Chichicastenango has always been a dream destination for me but I never managed to get there. I also know that the local people are not fond of seeing photographers and they do do all they can to avoid pictures, gestures w,th their fingers , shouting or even worse. I have had some problems when in Mexico .
But your picture reflects nothing of these problems, and I like the way you framed it letting us see some background far and unsharp but mainly with the merchandise she is trying to sell. Also her nonchalent pose within an excellent sharpness gives us a good glimpse of this scene.
With friendly regards - Izzet

Oh you were in Guatemala! A fascinating country I guess...She was waiting for customers to buy her beautiful staff...were you one of them? but as you said she had probably a bad day, I guess you did not buy anything from her ;)
I like the patterns and graphism impact provided by the lines of the materials.
