Photographer’s Note
The Topuxte island is located in the lake near the Yaxhá ruins. As I said in my earlier post, Yaxhá is rarely visited (even though Wikipedia doesn't agree), imagine now the island! Not a soul, except for your local guide! Also, it has not been reconstructed as other sites have been so it gives you a feel like you're discovering something new.
Topoxte outpost of Yaxhá during the Late Classic and was the largest Postclassic Maya site in Petén Basin. The name of the site, Topoxte, means “Ramón tree's seed.” The Ramón tree, commonly known as breadnut, was an important component of the ancient Maya diet.
