Tikal is situated on a low hill. Perhaps in 700BC the Maya are still located here because of the isolated hilltop location, which is surrounded by marshes. Another reason could be found there firestones that the Maya needed for to spear and arrowheads, and knives can too. That time there was already trade with distant peoples.

A good point of view on this impressive monument. I like the inclusion of the standing stones and the juxtaposition they make with the steep steps. Good light, colours and sharpness.

Hi Achim, This is fascinating little bit of history. It is amazing how things were built so far back and are still in existance, I wonder how much of modern day structures will last so long??? Great note . Have a great week Ricx

The stones and the trees are framing well the pyramid. the point of view is allowing me to see the details and colors of the architecture of the pyramid. The intensity of the light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Nice photo of the Mayan pyramid from Tikal. This pyramid is maybe not so impressive as other ones in Tikal but the photo is very nice and shows also the jungle around it. Good colours and light.

It is amazing to see the fine masonry work in these ancient structures!
Elegant design too, the the shape of the pyramid is dynamic, pointing to the sky...
A well balanced composition with a good sense of depth!

I ever think how a people that were so far from others about culture and architecture created something similar. these stairs are an exemple, when the indians crossed bering strait there weren't stairs where they came. interesting these massive shapes, looks like modernist architecture
excellent pov and light here

Hello Mr President
Do the people who have built these pyramids were inluenced by the ancient Egyptians ? It's a mystery.
Good position, I appreciate the volume of the old architecture.
