Tikal is Guatemala premier tourist attraction, and probably the finest example of Mayan architecture. Tikal is a huge complex of 6 major temples (pyramids around 50-60 meters high) and lots of other buildings located in a fascinating, jungle-surrounded setting. The ruins date back to 6th-9th century.
Some of the temples can be climbed - it is a very tough hike, but the views from the top are splendid. To see everything at Tikal you need at least a whole day. There are only a couple of relativly expensive places to stay at Tikal, but you can opt to stay in Flores and visit Tikal on a daytrip.

An impressive view, well captured. The colours are strong and natural at the same time. I really like the composition with the branches on the top left.
Good job, thanks for sharing.

I see that you have also made a travel to Guatemala in 2008! Very nice shot of the monument of Mayan architecture which is really a world apart but although not similar to Angkor Wat, it is still a marvel to see such work from early era. Good composition in vertical and shot in good colorful contrast. I will be presenting my Cambodia travelogue in due course. And it is good to see you are posting Guatemala photos :)

I remember this one: i was walking around it for a couple days trying to think of an interesting shot, but nada... nothing interesting came up. except that for a moment, there was a native mayan ceremony at the base of the pyramid, but they explicitly forbade me to take pictures.
a clear and straightforward presentation.
ps. to those, who have made it here, I would advise staying at one of those expensive places in Tikal for a night or two though. the true magic of Tikal comes out right before sunset and at the sunrise (if the guards let you into the park that early). commuting from Flores would place one right in the middle of the regular afternoon tourist crowd...

The temple is massively present in this view, corresponding well to its format. Well framed by the surrounding trees and branches.
