I saw this curious spider whilst I was having lunch at the Aquarium beach. What fascinated me the most was the shape of its abdomen which to me looks like a conch. It took me quite some time to take this shoot as the spider was not only located above me, but I also had no tripod and it was windy, making the web and the spider move all the time. None the less, I managed to get quite a decent shot in the end. I would like to know the name of this type of spider if anyone knows.

I think your hard efforts to take this shot payed off. Very beautifull picture. Indeed, his abdomen looks very much like a conch. Very curious spider.

Nice macro of this beautiful specimen of "Argiope Lobata", very common in mediterranean areas. The shot is very sharp and well composed with a nice central position for the body of the spider and a radial position of its legs. The only problem I see is the relative darkness of the subject due to back-light conditions. But you were right not to displace this spider: argiopes can bit, even if they are not very agressive !
Thanks for sharing !

Francis, I think this is a very striking photo! I really like it - and coming from someone who is not too keen on spiders that's saying a lot!! :-) Great picture.
