Photographer's Note

I told you that the “Samana” outback was a marvel, north west of the Dominican Republic. I already showed you the beaches, the “Los Haitises” parc and its wonderful birds. Another incredible spot was the "El Limon" waterfall.

You first need to access the small “El Limon” village thanks to the small road between “Las Terrenas” and “Samana” among incredible hills full of palm trees. Then, many people may propose you to access the spot after a 40 minutes horse ride. You first go through few farms before fallowing the river under a real, amazing, rain forest. That's a real sweat, even on the horse. After this long and great tour, you reach a kind of high spot with a great panorama on the top of an hill. From this place, you have a perfect view on the "El Limon" waterfall on another hill just before you.

So, you have to walk another 10 minutes to reach this other hill and getting closer from this amazing light blue waterfall, with almost emerald colors. For courageous people, a nice swimming is welcome in the cold water. For even more courageous people (like me :)...), you spend 10 additional minutes taking as much picture as you can before going to refresh you in this cold water.

I have been preparing for this tour several weeks before. I read a lot of article, bought a ND8 filter to get the perfect picture, prepared my tripod. And when I arrived on the spot, I discovered that was quite uneasy to travel with so many things on the horse, that was horrible to discover that under waterfall of such heights (45 metres), it's almost full rain which is quite dangerous for the camera. That was a pity and I took few poor pictures like this one, still that was a great moment. Some part of the “Apocalypse Now” movie were shot here !
