Photographer’s Note
Rivers like Yaque del Norte in the central Dominican Republic mountain ranges flow rapidly downhill from peaks as high as 3,000 meters. As you would imagine, this allows a range of uses from white water rafting to a hydro power plant (just a few hundred meters downstream from this photo). This area is about a 45 minute drive south from Santiago and is popular with both locals as a weekend getaway and with international visitors for eco-tourism.
