Photographer’s Note

Risking to look like I am doing publicity to this hotel, here it goes another one. Despite being only one or two Kms away from the centre of Jarabacoa, this hotel on the border of the Jimenoa river, looks like being rather far away from everything.

Some of you already know the place from earlier posts and WS's of mine (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

I agree now with those who considered the latter one of my best photos of the place. Maybe one of these days I'll do a main post with it, perhaps with another PP. I hesitated posted a similar view taken in the morning, but it has several issues that don't satisfy me, so I posted it as WS. On the other WS, you have a view towards the other side of the river shot from the restaurant.

Location (latitude, longitude): 19.141015,-70.630464 (I am not sure about the accuracy, but my guess is that the error isn't higher than 1000 meters/yards).

Update 4-Nov-2007:

• I posted the original image without any PP as a WS, so those who noted the excessive OE in the brightest parts may understand why I didn't bother much correcting it: I think it's a nearly impossible task doing it effectively.

• Atus posted a very clever WS that with just a simple crop "solves" the problem of OE and the ugly construction by eliminating the top part while at the same time he makes the compo more effective.

Você está ficando bom nesse negócio de tirar fotografias. A composição está excelente. Chega ao ponto de o reflexo completar exatamente o que falta na parte superior. Realmente boa.

Ficou ótimo o reflexo, além do local sem bem agradável também, sempre fico impressioando como a água atua como um belo filtro polarizador, ja reparou isso?

Bela composição, este laguinho fez um excelente reflexo que completa a estrutura do hotel, que não foi mostrada. O reflexo complementa a imagem refletida. As cores, luz e definição estão excelentes.

I love reflections and these are so sharp and clear in the still water. Maybe the top part of the image is a touch too bright? Not enough to be a problem and some selective curves work would do the trick. The daytime shot by the river from the same POV is not as attractive as the evening one; that must have been some storm for the water to be that muddy. The other WS with the thatched shelter is also good with some attractive light on the thatching. (the direct link isn't working btw)

great clarity helps to see that excellent captured reflections. You achieved amazing sharpness and the curve makes the composition dynamic and attractive. I like it a lot.

A very fine reflection shot, with a thoughtful composition. I like the curving edge of the pond, and the clump of grass as the focal point on the right. Beautiful exposure of the still water. Nicely done.

Hello Jose -

This is really nice. I especially like reflections and seek them out whenever possible. I like this reflection because of the crisp and clear reflection of the pool side elements. The "S" curve of the wall has a pleasing shape and gracefully separates the real elements from the reflections. But, to me the image feels cut off and not complete. I think this comes from the BG pillars just leaving the frame rather than being architecturally capped. This just my opinion, as the image is well executed and composed. Well done!

Não sou muito de reflexos, por isso limito-me a comentar esta foto como bonita e agradável, talvez com um pouco de luz a mais lá ao fundo.
De início fez-me lembrar um jardim japonês.
Publicidade ao hotel "é" realmente aquela tal the latter.
Realmente aquela água barrenta e avermelhada "estraga" a publicidade (e a foto).

Hello Jose! The latter shot is very good but I think one here is a very clever composition. Good of you to show us the architecture of the hotel in the reflection. And good work with the light to keep the reflection and non-reflection areas both exposed well.

Ótima foto onde a vedete é o reflexo - excelente composição!
Já está-se tornando um hábito (por sinal, um agradável hábito, com risco de a gente se tornar "accro" e querer sempre ver mais e mais :-) o fato de achar um ou dois dos seus WS tão bons quanto a foto principal ou até mesmo melhores. A conclusão é que, claro, você é um excelente fotógrafo, que estuda vários POVs e pelo mesmo motivo (de fazê-lo muito bem), acaba ficando com várias fotos de boa qualidade, sendo difícil escolher a melhor para o assunto.
A Complementary view #2 está um doce!

Hello José,
another interesting shot of this pretty and nicely located hotel. I agree with you and those who consider "the latter", probably the best photo of the place. On the other hand, I tried a simple WS on this one, in order to convey the viewer's attention only on the gorgeous and perfect reflection captured. With a simple crop from the top, both the overexposed parts and the distracting and less attractive things (like the construction on the top right) could be avoided. Hope you don't mind! Muito bom este reflexos neste pequeno lago , complestaste a parte que falta em cima da casa , bom angulo de visão , gostei do muro do lago em S , os Ws são muito bonitos um lugar muito bonito , parabens!!!

Hello Jose,
A nice simple place and your reflections really make it special, i like the colours alot especially the reflection's colours. I try to play with the rotation and rotates it 180o and you can see the result on ws :-)

Bonjour José,

Je me permets de parler en français car tu le parles admirablement bien. Un bien bon travail de PP sur cette photo, surtout au niveau de la lumière je trouve. Cette retenue d'eau est un vrai miroir en effet et la netteté de l'image met bien en valeur ce reflet. Un hôtel où il doit être bien agréable de s'arrêter et qui semble bien entretenu. Joli coup d'oeil José, bravo.

Esta foto esta muy buena con la presencia de un fantastico reflejo en la pequeña piscina, los colores y la definicion estan estupendos.
Luego me diras el nombre del hotel para en caso que vaya un dia a Jarabacoa, luce muy bien.
Luego de mi llegada de mi viaje a Argentina he estado muy ocupado.

i like the balance of your shot with the the reflection to be the half of your synthesis.In the Water i can see the clear and blue sky with a lot of details of the above parts of the house.Thanks Atus for his WS.As i wrote above we see the details of the house in the water.Informative your note too.

Olá José,
Eh lá, há aqui muita interacção e coisas para ver que nunca se advinha na miniatura. Concordo que o WS2 é bem interessante e mais apropriado para este post do que esta (nem sei se gosto mais da diurna, mas o efeito de arrasto da água está de facto muito bom), mas também acho que esta imagem é demasiado boa para se perder num WS. É claro que estás a fazer publicidade - quando lá for já sei para onde vou :)))) Dito isto, tens aqui uma imagem super atraente visualmente. Gosto muito da curva a enrolar no circulo lá à frente e a imagem reflectida está um espanto. O crop do Atus foi bem visto.

le sujet est tout simple, mais le coin fait rêver par ses couleurs et sa décoration, des reflets qui relayent bientoutes ces belles couleurs et lumières.
Une photo bien exposée qui ne manque vraiment pas de netteté.

I like the reflections, Jose, and you have done well in composition and pov here. Clarity and sharp details under a good exposure, with a wise curved concrete/shrubs around the water that I find in particularly striking.

Although wide pov will bring better result, you have framed the reflection of house up to roof, and I like that. Well done, Jose. TFS
