This is another shot from the wonderful "Los Haitises" parc. As I mentioned it in a previous shot, this part of the country right in front of the city called Sanchez, on the other side of the Samana bay is a very rich ecosystem.
The coast is made of rocks covered of trees. A great part of the maritim area is covered with mangrove. The rocky parts are full of caves where the Tainos people people were refuged when the Spanish Conquistadores started to exterminate the native indian populations in the late 15th century. Unfortunately, they were all dead long before the Valladolid conference during which the status of natives from the American territories was discussed in 1550. Most of them died of diseases, but also from slaughters. It is said that the women - aware of the slavery future of their sons - decided to stop giving birth which contributed to their disappearing.
So, this place is really full of interesting caves with Tainos pictographs : kind of drawing through which the indians expressed their feelings about Spanish Conquistadores.
Along the coast, one can also see a lot of Mogotes, these small hills standing in the sea like in the Halong bay in Viet-nam. On this picture, one can see a part of a Mogote taken from a cave. I found the framing quite interesting.
I just resized the picture, saturated the picture a bit and applied a light unsharp mask.
