Mormon Temple Photo

Photographer’s Note

Two days ago while i was returning home from my office at about 7:15pm the Mormon Temple called my attention, it was lighted so I stopped my car and took this shot, again no tripod was used I just rested my camera on top of the fence and held my breath and the picture was taken. The early evening was very cloudy and was raining during the afternoon. An ISO 400 and a f/3.5 and 10/100 sec. exposure was used.
The Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Temple was the first temple built in the Caribbean, Dedication was 17 September 2000 by Gordon B. Hinckley. The site of the Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Temple is on a slightly elevated location in a southern, upscale area just a few minutes from the center of Santo Domingo next to the National Music Conservatory. The beautiful site offers an expansive view of the Caribbean Sea to the south.

This is a great shot of an interesting place, I never made it to the Dominican capital but this shot has shown a different side of the city that I didn't expect.

Très bien réussie cette prise de vue, l'éclairage est superbe et beau contraste entre le temple et le magnifique ciel nuageux. J'aime beaucoup la rangée de palmier en avant-plan et surtout l'éclairage de l'arbre à gauche.

Me gusta la foto, pienso que has conseguido una imagen muy redonda, con buenos colores, definición y sobre todo un buen control de la luz, el cuanto el encuadre me parece muy interesante con ese fondo oscuro de nubes que hace que el Templo destaque aún más, sobre lo que comenta Oscar del árbol pienso en este caso no es nada importante porque el protagonismo de la composición es del elegante templo Mormón.

Hola Emile,

Interesante ver un templo Mormon de este calibre en Santo Domingo pues no me imaginaba que ellos tuvieran tantos feligreses en la RD. El edificio es muy bonito y las luces le dan mas realce a sus detalles. Es interesante tambien como los Mormones generalmente construyen sus templos en upscale barrios...Hay alguna sinagoga en Santo Domingo? Gracias amigo.

Excellent shot Emile. The sky is very dramatic and makes an interesting background. The lighting on both the trees and the building is superb. Good use of the fence as a tripod. :)

Hola Emile,
These are nice light conditions, especially the cloud turned light purple gives it an original and strong background. Good result for an image taken without tripod and the large aperture is not perceptible at this TE size.

otra vez has hecho un buen trabajo en una foto espontánea, y has tenido buenos recursos para solventar la falta de trípode, consiguiendo un gran exposición y mucha calidad de imagen nocturna gracias al apoyo sobre una valla y a contener la respiración unos instantes.
El encuadre es elegante y nos ofrece una bonita perspectiva de esta iglesia, cuya geometría de líneas y volúmenes es muy interesante, y junto a la vegetación y el cielo que la rodean, forman una composición muy atractiva.
Buena foto, me gusta.

there are a lot of evangelistic churches in the Carribbean, I noticed again this year in Jamaica.
I think in the DR the Roman catholic church is still the major one?
Fine nightshot of this impressive modern church surrounde by palms under a great sky.

Hola Emile,
Bit dark in the foreground, but that soft purple light along the foorpath is very good, just as the light on the tree. The dark silhouettes in front of the temple work pretty good, just as the light on the temple itself is one of the best parts of the image. Of course that purple toning sky brings out colour and contrast to the image and has some good detail inside...very nice.

La exposicion esta perfecta. La composicion esta muy balanceada entre las nubes y el arbol. Muy bien visto.

Mi unica critica ees que la imagen parece estar un over-sharpen. Te recomendaria que uses el Smart-Sharpen para mejor control.

Very good photo of this temple, that is very nicely illuminated and stands nicely out against the purple cloud in the background. The composition is good too with a nice inclusion of the reddish tree on the right hand side. Good night photography without a tripod!

I don't think i ever saw a Mormon temple before, i tought they were just around Salt Lake City, and US! Strange architecture too, with something of a minaret in this belltower.

Hola Emile,
me han sorprendido gratamente varios detalles de la excelente fotografía, a parte de la gran definición de imagen, la gran iluminación y el acertado POV.
Los detalles a los que me refiero son, por un lado, la estructura arquitectónica bien curiosa y peculiar del templo ( parece realizada como una construcción típica de juguetes de los niños, como un Lego ). Por otro lado, el cielo tan enrarecido pero que muestra un anhelo de despejarse i finalmente, la solemne presencia del templo bajo ese cielo y alrededor de la iluminación parece tener una presencia prácticamente divina.
Un fenomenal trabajo Emile!

Hello Emile,

An excellent shot of the Mormon Shrine in Santo Domingo. Around the Washington Beltway (on the Maryland side) there is an extraordinary edifice built as the Mormon Shrine — and like this one, it appears to reach higher and higher, accentuating a sense of verticality. You've chosen a very good vantage point to further accentuate that atmosphere.

Eh andado distraído con tu galería. Esta se me escapó. Esta preciosa. El PdV, la arquitectura, la mezcla de la iluminación artificial con la luz de fin de dia y el ese cielo tan dramático, producen una atmósfera que tiene algo de glorioso y místico que va muy bien con una iglesia. No entiendo nada de Arquitectura, pero me hace lembrar una mezquita, por lo menos la torre.

Another gorgeous photo. I think I like this temple even more than the one situated in Salt Lake City. The threatening clouds in the background and a well lit temple really make this a truly remarkable picture.
