Photographer's Note

The Parque Colón is one of the parks or historical squares of the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, which served as principal center of party of the society at the colonial epoch. Nowadays the Parque Colón is used as principal center of cultural activities and also it forms a part of the Patrimony of the Humanity of Santo Domingo.

Previously it was called as Plaza of the Cathedral, since to a few meters of the square one was finding the Cathedral Primada of America. In the centre of this park one finds the statue of the Great Admiral Christopher Colón who appears with the finger towards north, and it was a creation of the French sculptor E. Gilbert. On February 27, 1887, it was inaugurated officially as Parque Colón.

In this photo I wanted to catch the monument with the statue of Colon in the foreground and the Cathedral behind it, with the atmosphere of the square and a very beautiful sky. I tried to control the strong cross-light that was complicating my shots, and I liked the result, which I want to share with all of you.

El Parque Colón es uno de los parques o plazas históricas de la Zona Colonial de Santo Domingo de Guzmán, el cual sirvió como centro principal de fiesta de la sociedad de la época colonial. Actualmente el Parque Colón es utilizado como centro principal de actividades culturales y también forma parte del Patrimonio de la Humanidad de Santo Domingo.

Anteriormente fue llamada como Plaza de la Catedral, ya que a unos metros de la plaza se encontraba la Catedral Primada de América. En el centro de este parque se encuentra la estatua del Gran Almirante Cristóbal Colón que apunta con el dedo hacia al norte, y fue una creación del escultor francés E. Gilbert. El 27 de febrero de 1887, fue inaugurado oficialmente como Parque Colón.

En esta foto quise captar el monumento con la estatua de Colón en el primer plano y la Catedral Primada detrás, con el ambiente de la plaza y un cielo muy bello. Intenté controlar el fuerte contraluz que complicaba los disparos, y me gustó el resultado, que quiero compartir con todos vosotros.

Intéressante vue de cette capitale avec cette évocation historique de ce lieu, une présentation centrale qui valorise la statue. J'ai presque la même dans ma galerie ... avec plus de pigeons !

Hello Josep,
In Barcelona I've seen the statue of Christopher Colón on top of the tall column pointing towards America.
Now you show us a picture of a second monument, this time in the Dominican Republic, where this discoverer is pointing in the opposite direction. He was probably thinking at his way back home :)
I think the result of this picture is great despite the strong cross-light. So you did it very well.
It's also a nice square with trees at both sides and a beautiful cathedral built in 'colonial style'. The clouds in the tropical sky are splendid.

Hola Josep,
Muy arriesgada la captura de esta foto con la dificil luz que tenias, pero incluso el quemado de las nubes hace bien contrastando con la silueta de la estatua.
A lo mejor ese Colón apunta con su dedo hacia el dedo del que esta en Barcelona.
Bonita plaza y bella arquitectura la del fondo.

Le sujet ressort à merveille sur ce ciel empli de nuages qui déchirent un ciel qui se voudrait bleu.
Belle mise en scène de cette sculpture bénéficiant d'un superbe arrière-plan architectural.

Muy buena composición. Excelente captura de la estatua del gran descubridor, con un buen uso de la luz de fondo. La catedral es una joya de la arquitectura colonial. Muy buena toma, los colores son estupendos.

Bonjour Josep,

Contre-jour qui ne semblait pas facile à photographier mais tu as bien réussi ton shot sans perdre de détails sur l'architecture et notamment sur cette statue à la gloire de Christophe Colomb. En plus cela donne une atmosphère particulière à cette place. Belle et intéressante photo, merci Josep.

Bona composició de la plaça amb el monument i la catedral al fons.
Els núvols són fantástics i malgrat el contrallum, has captat molt bé els espais a l'ombra.
El monument a Colón és maco, però una mica petit comparat amb el de BCN. :)

Aunque en contraluz, el manejo de la luz es muy bueno! La composicion "central" funciona muy bien en este caso! Gran encuadre, muy bien "equilibrado"!

Con el sol alto y en pleno contraluz has conseguido una foto realmente buena, gran dominio de la luz pues el problema lo has revertido en ventaja, las nubes estan preciosas parecen que esten pintadas y toda la composicion con muy buen equilibrio esta luminosa y nitida con un bonito color. Gran trabajo amigo.

Hola Don Josep!

Y es que la sombra de Don Cristobal es alargada...probablemente algo más de lo que vemos en esta simbólica foto, con su omnipresente dedo enhiesto, quizá ya anquilosado con el paso de los años en la misma posición en todas sus estatuas..Quién tuvo la genial idea?? Eso sí...En las estatuas americanas... Dirige el dedo hacia España??!!

Me parece un genial contraluz conuna gestión muy bien realizada, donde los detalles podemos verlo , aún así con claridad y definició óptima, un cielo espectacular..y una nota...de nota!!!

Que pases un feliz fin de semana...y cuidado con el dedo de Colón... ;O)

C'est très difficile de gagner en clarté sur un contre-jour tout en gardant un ciel sans trop de lumière mais tu y es parvenu. J'aime cette atmosphère un peu irréelle de cette composition.

le condizioni di luce erano davvero difficili ma te la sei cavata alla grande.
Bella l'inquadratura con la statua davanti alla cattedrale, ottima luminosità nella scena e colori molto naturali, la presenza umana ravviva la scena.

You took this shot against light, but have been successful in bringing out the details of the statue. The clouds almost luminescent wit the sun playing right through them create a fine backdrop to the statue. As always a fine note which is very informative
