Fishing boats are one of my favourite photograpy subjects in Dominica.
There are still quite a few people who make their living from fishing on the island, although they are getting fewer and fewer as the fishing stocks appear to be going in the same direction. Many of the boats are still made the traditonal way, out of wood, by our indigenous Kalinago. I spotted this one on Batalie beach on the west coast of Dominica.
It was a beautiful blue sky day which matched the colours of the boat and net.
I wanted the boat to be slightly out of focus in the background as I liked the detail & texture of the net, so used a large aperture setting.
Dominica is a very volcanic island and many of the beaches have dark volcanic sand.

I think the use of a shallow depth of field to focus attention on the detail of the net is very effective. The little fishing boat and view of the sea bring everything into context and there is harmony in the different shades of blue. Interesting note too.
