Colourful Caterpillar, a photo from Saint George, South

Calling all lepidopterists! (technical name for the folks who study butterflies)

I've been hanging onto this image, seeking to find out what exactly I've captured. I've had no luck as of yet... does anyone out there know?

This is the first shot I took with my new tele- lens, from about 15' away. There are some things I would change (aren't there always?) but overall, I'm impressed with the result. Loved Rosseau... so much natural beauty all around!

Kai, esta es una muy buena fotografia, gran contraste, gran DOF, muy buenos colores, incluso el fondo es como suave, por la flor y el color verde que rodea la flor.
bueno, segun mis conocimientos, eso es un como le llamamos aqui, bicho, hehehe, bueno, hablandote en serio, es un insecto que creo que se vuelve mariposa, pues he visto muchos aqui en mi pais y creo haber oido que se vuelven mariposas, incluso son de muchos colores diferentes, mi abuela esta aqui a mi lado y ella me dice es un gusano que comen hojas verdes.

me gustan esos gusanos, de hecho siempre que veo uno tambien les hago su fotografia, pues los he visto envueltos en una tela que ellos mismos producen y al final, se vuelven mariposas, el nombre cientifico no lo tengo, por que nosotros los dominicanos le llamamos bicho, insectos y pajaros raros a todo lo que uno no conoce :D

That's a good job on the first outting with your tele-lens, and you have maintained the sharpness and finess of the caterpillar.
The DoF created are superb, Kai.

Very nice close-up shot Kai. The caterpillar is very vivid and the flower in the background adds a nice touch. The frame goes well also. What an interesting little creature :)
