Whilst on holiday in Guardalavaca in Cuba a few years ago there was an amazing electrical storm one night. I went down to the beach and watched the storm out at sea. It's virtually impossible to guess when and where lightning will strike so I was delighted with this shot. I only wish I had pointed the camera a bit further to the left, but never mind. This was shot on a Nikon F100 with Fuji Velvia 50 film and is a light crop from a landscape shot. The colours you see are the colours that were replicated on the slide!
(BTW, I deliberately don't post 800 pixel shots - sorry!) |

Lightning shots are always very cool looking. I've gotten a few of the lightning in the clouds but never one reaching the ground. This is a great shot, I like it a lot. I understand what you mean by it being difficult to take the shot though, I just setup a tripod and keep taking as many shots as possible and hope that I finally get one in the camera.
Hello, Neil -
I am always amazed when someone can capture something as fleeting as a lightning bolt, and this one is quite spectacular. The colors are quite something. Great details, especially considering how quickly this moment passed. Very memorable, well done.
hi neil
what an amazing capture. its difficult capturing lightning, and to get such a good image showint the root and the tip of the burst of the lightining is a treasure. i liked the red color on the image, adds that extra bit of intensity
to the image.
take care
ciao
