This was taken from underneath the huge Jesus statue (see workshop) in the north-east side of Havana pointing my camera to the old part of the city (SW). See the link at the bottom for the exact location. Click on the photo for the large version.
I took this early in the morning, around 7:00 am. I was there the day before, in the afternoon, but at that time the light came from the front and was terrible. You can get here by driving thru the tunnel and than take the first exit; a hairpin corner.
At daytime you have to pay admission to enter the grounds and pay the guy that keeps an eye on your car but at 7:00 in the morning, you can keep your pesos in your pocket! (: It was a nice quiet morning, nobody was there. I just sat there and watched the city wake up.
Technical: tripod, 70mm, stitched (Photovista Panorama) with 10 picture with the same exposure.

I obviously know about Cuba and Havanna, but this is the first image I've seen that gives me a wider view of the city....panaramic format works well, and I like the soft, pastel tones in the photo. The inclusion of the domed building on the left provides a nice break from the regular buildings across the full view. Well captured.

Great and poetic Cuba! Most poetic here, in this photo of yours.

Hi Gilbert ,
I love your panorama series .
You know well how to find the place that overlooks the whole city and thank you for taking a trouble to get up early in the morning and get to this place and shoot this .
This picture allows me to take a closer look at Havana city and tells me what Havana is like .

I'm on winter break, so I thought I would take advantage of my free time by posting some pics. I see that you have been very busy! This is a nice pan view of La Habana. The sunlight on the buildings is very nice. Great sharpness and DOF as well. Talk to you soon.

Beautiful shot and a view that I have not often seen well captured (perhaps because it requires so much effort!). It was well worth the trouble to get up extra early and get this splendid lighting. And without the crowd around you either!
Your information is also helpful for anyone visiting La Habana.
