I'm sure most, if not everyone knows about the old classic cars in Cuba. After seeing it for myself, it was like a dream come true.
Photographing cars is right up near the top of my personal list of favorite subjects, so i was really looking forward to seeing Cuba!
And it certainly didn't disappoint. I could easily post 20-30 Car photo's alone, but then you'd get pretty bored wouldn't you (not me though!)
This photo here is in HDR. I know you're going to think i saturated the blues, but i promise 100% that the blues in the car are totally real and true. No saturation added at all. Many of the cars we saw had strong vibrant colors, reds, blues, greens, bright yellows...it was a sight to behold!
At every street corner you could easily find another car to photograph. Some were in pristine looking condition, some were in awful condition, some were being worked on by their owners and friends. Take your pick!!
I'll post a Cuban Car photo from time to time :)
thanks for looking

Wow, Havana with its streets full of old stylish cars and the damaged houses: I can imagine you felt there like a rabbit on a field with lettuce :)
I am not a big fan of cars but I can appreciate the beauty of this one. The HDR was used exactly as I now like it: so subtly that nobody would guess that it was HDR. It just make a relatively simple environment to an impressive view. It introduced the luminosity into this dark covered in shadow street. I like how you got the reflection in the water puddle, at the same time we see the details of the houses. Very well thought through composition. A real master piece.
Have a great Christmas!

Oh, go on - post as many car pictures from Cuba as you want - I'll love every single one of them! Funny thing - I was watching the news on TV just two or three days ago and there was something mentioned about Cuba: apparently they are going to be removing some restrictions which presently prevent new cars being imported there. In time that may well eventually rid these streets of these wonderful old 50s and 60s cars.
But you have caught this beauty perfectly. The vibrant blue car is perfectly placed in the frame and I just love the way its rear quarters are lit in brighter light making it stand out against the darker parts of the street. The car has a wonderfully purposeful stance too and looks as though it is just about to take off and accelerate down that long street ahead of it.
Lovely light an colours, perfect composition (including people again!), excellent processing work and stunning details and sharpness.

Lovely photograph of the gorgeous blue car perfectly positioned. Nice perspective and street details too. Thanks for sharing. We surely will not be bored with your car photos when they are this good! Have a nice day.

Classic cars = classic shots, but I love them !
I guess there is a fair amount of pp work needed to balance the light in this shot. The end result is great.

who could resist such a beauty?
The car shines really lovely and the street provides magnificent scenery for the car.
Even the small puddles along the road add so nice effect to the scene.
Have a joyful holiday and a Great New Year!
CLODO (34552) 2013-12-23 1:06
A good perspective of the streets of Cuba, with an impressive blue car seeming just issued from the car manufacturer.
I like also the life (dog, persons) of the street.
very good post processing work not to get overexposed areas (houses walls).
Royaldevon (39344) 2013-12-23 1:29
WE don't see beauties like this other than an vintage car rallies which is such a shame. There was a time when cars were all so characteristically different; now they all seem to follow similar styles!
Love how the car is taking us on the journey of discovery up the street, with its very Hispanic feel.
The little details of muted shininess, reflecting puddles, gossiping figures, all add to our understanding.
Have a lovely Christmas,

I would love to see these old and colourful beauties. This shot is so full of the atmosphere and character of Cuba and your post-processing here has brought the whole scene to life. Just wonderful!
Love the blues man!
snunney (100154) 2013-12-23 2:43
The blue paintwork is vivid indeed. I like how you have framed the shot, using the car as a pointer looking down the long straight street. Also, the atmosphere created by the light and shadow contrasts and the reflections in the puddle of water.

Don t hesitate to post cuban s cars, it s part of La Habana! and if the pics are well done, it s amazing! I have the same imaginary vision of it... this Dodge is great, and as u say, power blue.. but I also like the fact there is sthg happening in the street with any people meeting, a light on the walls.. grat total mood... Did u know most of old american cuban cars have the motor changed by a small russian motor? is it really true?
bona (13737) 2013-12-23 4:09
what a lovely blue car. I took many photos of cars this days and soon I'll upload here. But I think that none compare with your cars photos.
Nice inclusion of this street, great management of light.
Sergiom (80830) 2013-12-23 5:43
J'aime beaucoup le point de vue pour nous montrer cette beauté bien conservée. Bien sûr, la couleurs est moderne et fait probablement la fierté du propriétaire. J'aime la lumière sur la rue en arrière plan.

Nice use of the iconic american blue car to introduce our eyes to the perspective of the street
Excellent control of the exposure here or/and PP work up
Have a nice day and a merry Xmas
saxo042 (37890) 2013-12-23 8:18
A very pleasant street view with very attractive houses along here. The car brings back some nostalgic memories, I remember these models from when I was very young. But I never saw such a blue car.
worldcitizen (8708) 2013-12-23 8:52
Now THAT'S blue! :-) Great color, and view of the street life in the distance. It's amazing that while many people in the US get a newer car every few years, the people of Cuba have managed to use the same vehicles for more than sixty years! Did you ride in any of them?
Have a very Merry Christmas!! :-)
rychem (36935) 2013-12-23 8:58
Cuba has a huge collection of the beautiful old highway cruisers, this here is a beuatiful one, excellent photo.
All the best for Christmas
holmertz (53590) 2013-12-23 11:12
Did you realize that your five most recent photos all featured people in leading roles? I knew it was too good to last :-).
Honestly thpugh, this is a good photo too, no doubt. That dark blue tone is really terrific. The street looks quite interesting as well. The buildings look nicely kept, from what I can judge. I thought most of Havana would be rather crumbling.
Wish you and Tosca a Merry Christmas.
carlo62 (49299) 2013-12-23 15:12

Gidday dear Craig
I was waiting to see how long it was before a car played the star role in your photo, and Í wasn't disappointed. And I knew it would be HDR as this type of subject lends itself so well to that kind of post-processing. The wide angle lens has worked really well, I love the bokeh effect and the PP has evened out the light and shade superbly.
I wish you, Tosca and your families are wonderful Christmas, and a fantastic 2014 full of fun, happiness, health and travels...oh yeah and heaps of photos.
emka (98894) 2013-12-23 23:36
hello craig, These short holidays in Cuba must have been a photographic haven for you, with all these old cars and derelict houses everywhere.
I wish you and Toscas very Merry Christmas, full of peace, love and joy.
Noel_Byrne (31464) 2013-12-24 1:40
I promise I would not get bored of seeing these cars, its one of the reasons I want to see Cuba someday, since I was a child I was always fascinated by the cars here!
And this is a beauty. The color is so striking, and I think thats what makes it so much more appealing, I just simply dont see cars with this kind of paint job! Yes, I see modern cars, but they are in more neutral tones such as Bordeom Black, Accountant Grey or non discript red, so this stands out well for me. I love the composition you chose here too, as we look down the street into which the car faces, there is so much of interest to look at! The people, the buildings, the bright blue sky to match the vivid blue car...
A beautiful shot Craig, thanks for sharing.
And seeing the day thats in, please allow me to wish you and yours a very happy Christmas!
All the best

Stunning blue color, Craig, and well done a "light" HDR on this photo.
View down the road enhanced the depth and blue clear sky aloft aided a wonderful scene.
My best holidays greetings,
Silvio1953 (144514) 2013-12-24 8:05
Ciao Craig, lovely composition with fantasticcar, excellent perspective, wonderful colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, Merry Christmas to you Silvio
adramad (46034) 2013-12-24 8:45
Pride captured the perspective of the street, with its diverse line of facades, the car is well preserved for his age, puts a final touch on the image, both for its color, as your alluring charm of the past.
Very good color in natural tones.
Magnificent .... both brightness and sharpness.
Well captured. I Like
I wish you a Merry Christmas in the company of family and friends.
All the best to you.

Those cuban cars are famous and you are photographing them in a very attractive way!
Sharpness, management of (difficult) light, colors, horizontal format, slim black borders, chosen pov and composition are all excellent!
TFS - congrats,

Another lovely car photo and a typical Cuban scene. Obviously an old Dodge this time. Yes, the blue colour of the car is very attractive. A fine composition and a nice street shot. The inclusion of the people and the narrow puddle adds a nice touch of life to the scene. Lovely work:)
annjackman (21899) 2013-12-30 6:17
That vibrant blue colour really stands out. The whole pictures is typical Cuban. I like the puddle of water that has caught some bright reflections as it adds some brightness to the shadow area.
Happy New Year,
adores (45641) 2013-12-30 14:31
A very nice car and Havana just how I imagine it:)! Old cars and architecture and also life in the streets (people, dogs...)! I almost went there eighteen years ago but then I changed plans, seems you enjoyed your stay a lot!
Have a great New Year!
